THE STORY BEHIND OUR SUCCESS

Our Story: Born From Crisis, Built for Impact

In 2020, as COVID-19 lockdowns forced schools to close across Africa, millions of students—especially in rural and underserved communities—were left without access to learning. While some transitioned to online platforms, the majority were cut off due to lack of internet, digital devices, or electricity.

The challenge was clear:
How can education continue without internet access?

SOMABOX was created to directly address this digital divide. It is a compact, offline learning device preloaded with educational content and designed to bring quality learning to disconnected communities.

Our mission

To bridge the digital divide by delivering quality, accessible, and localized digital education—without relying on internet connectivity.

What is SOMABOX?

SOMABOX is an offline, plug-and-play digital education server that:
  • Hosts full curriculum-aligned content (videos, books, apps, simulations)
  • Works without internet or consistent power supply
  • Supports self-paced and group learning across all ages
  • Operates in remote and underserved communities
  • Allows for full customization of content per school or region

Why SOMABOX matters

SOMABOX is an offline, plug-and-play digital education server that:

  • In Sub-Saharan Africa, over 60% of students lack stable internet access.
  • Digital learning solutions often leave behind those without devices or data plans.
  • Infrastructure gaps continue to widen the education inequality.

SOMABOX solves these barriers with an offline-first, scalable technology that brings the digital classroom directly to the learner—no internet required
